Overview
Butambala district is one of the four districts of Gomba, Mpigi , Wakiso and Butambala, which were cut from the Greater Mpigi. Butambala was cut off in 2010.The district is one of the Local Governments situated about 73kms from Kampala, the Capital City of Uganda. It is neighboured by the districts of Mpigi in the north, Gomba in the south, Mityana in the west and Kalungu in the south. It has a population of about 110,000 people. This small district has two town councils and four sub sounties. The main activity in the district is cultivation, with Ginger crop as the main economic crop. Coffee, too, is starting to catch up in the past few years.It has twenty five parishes and 142 villages.
